Our History

A Bit of Our History

Barely out of school in 1978, I started in Belgium in the retail trade of rattan and bamboo furniture under the trade name VANIFLOR.

In the midst of the nature trend, I also specialized in pine furniture and opened another high-end store « Lena meubles »

This commercial adventure lasted 20 years.

In 1998, I decided to put all this aside to focus on wholesale of these same products.

Four years later, with my experience, I first integrated production factories in the Philippines, the country of rattan and bamboo par excellence.

In 2004, my son Vincent, designer and technician, took my place in Cebu/Philippines to start manufacturing exclusive bamboo Nipa huts models.

From the beginning, we bet on the tradition and know-how of Filipino workers.

While respecting these proud and skilled people, we set up model factories and developed an unparalleled Nipa Hut concept.

Many techniques previously unknown on site were developed and others improved.

As an example, the possibility of offering dismountable nipa huts and also the development of a valid treatment against bamboo worms and aspergillus fungus. Our pool immersion treatment has become the quality standard.

I can say without boasting, that during these twenty years, our models, photos, designs, manufacturing techniques, have been copied, plundered and diverted.

The majority of models on the market come from our creations and catalogs.

But one certainty remains: better the original than the copy!

I am keen to add that we have supported hundreds of families throughout these years and to this day it is still the case.

Do not lose sight that your guarantee of quality and price is our long-standing expertise.

When some would like to suggest that the manufacturing of nipa huts and/or gazebos is somewhat Asian but mainly improved by gadgets labeled made in Europe, we will not stop saying that there is no need to teach our specialized workers and this people with centuries-old traditions. We have not invented anything, just innovated, let that be clear.

Everything we offer for sale comes from these countries and all trade carried out is in line with the fair-trade concept. We only adapt the product to « Western » taste

To date, more than 5500 nipa huts have come out of our workshops during the Gl pearl, Abac and FMM period. No one has yet broken this record….

Despite the blows of fate (fires, floods, typhoons, betrayals, deaths) I am, with my collaborators, still standing and ready to serve and advise you.

In recent years, I have entrusted manufacturing to professional men and women, local people capable of leading craftsmen.

This is true in the Philippines with FMM Hut Trading for nipa Huts, but also in Indonesia with Timberwangko Asia for wooden gazebos.

Why buy Philippine bamboo?

1. Tradition

The nipa hut was born a long time ago in this country and therefore enjoys a long tradition.

2. Lush Nature

The bamboo used is drawn from a lush, abundant and totally virgin nature. The density of these bamboos makes it a first-choice material for manufacturing furniture and gazebos.

3. Ecological

Bamboo is cut without causing damage to the ecosystem. It grows back quickly.

4. Cultivated Bamboo

Cultivated bamboo is not suitable for the nipa concept as it explodes with heat and temperature variations. Example: Chinese bamboo.

5. Résistance

Philippine bamboo is super resistant to heat and cold.

6. Qualité

The treatment, mortise assembly, use of epoxy glues, finishing and sanding remain unmatched in this country compared to certain countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam.

Natural Material

What is a nipa leaf?

The whole world envies this miracle plant.

For centuries, in the Philippines, people cut it, weave it and make plant tiles from it.

Every nipa hut that comes out of our factory receives a roof that is waterproof and does not require additional plastic sheet covering or other!

Nipa is not a palm or banana leaf, but it grows like a shrub in marshy environments.

Contrary to what we might believe in our Western countries, it is very resistant and effective, its life expectancy is often greater than 8-10 years.
